Regular physical activity plays a vital role in staying healthy. Moving more helps to keep off weight, maintain healthy joints, and strengthen the cardiovascular system. It can lower blood sugar and increase flexibility as you age. Healthy St. Lucie hosts the Billion Steps Challenge to encourage all residents of St. Lucie County to be more active. We are in Year 7 of the challenge and our goal as a community is to collectively accrue two billion steps from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024. Many feet make the goal achievable!
Pearson’s Law: “That which is measured improves. That which is measured and reported improves exponentially.” Tracking our activity levels can help us make small changes to incorporate activity into our everyday lives. The Billion Steps Challenge has helped many of our residents to measure and increase their activity levels. We hope you will join and use this free platform to improve your health.
Remember that “moving more” is different for everyone! Even small increases in activity can improve your health. It doesn’t matter if your goal is 1,500 steps or 20,000, this free program can help you on your way to better health.
Healthy St. Lucie is using a web-based platform, Walker Tracker, to create an online community of St. Lucie County residents who strive to be more active. You can log your daily steps and keep an eye on how our County is doing overall. Don’t worry if you don’t like to walk for exercise or don’t have a step tracking device! Walker Tracker offers 100+ different activity types that can be converted to steps right inside their app.
Registration for the challenge will be open all year to allow as many residents to participate as possible. Click HERE to participate in the Billion Steps challenge-we can’t do it without you! Employers can use the platform at no cost to start or support employee wellness programs. Please call us for more information 772-873-4938.
Thank you to the Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie for partnering with the Healthy St. Lucie Coalition to make the Billion Steps Challenge possible!
